During the 19th International Symposium on Solubility Phenomena and Related Equilibrium Processes, which took place the week of July 12-16 as a Virtual Conference hosted by Los Alamos National Laboratory, USA (July 12-16), Ricardo Simões was awarded the the Franzosini Award (https://iupac.org/what-we-do/awards/franzosini-award/), which was assigned by the Subcommittee on Solubility and IUPAC's Equilibrium Data (SSED).
This prize, awarded every 2 years, is in its 21st edition, and aims to recognize the contribution of young scientists in the area of Solubility and Homogeneous Balance. It has been attributed to Ricardo for his work on the crystallization of organic compounds, and in particular for solubility studies on simvastatin, a pharmaceutical compound often used in the treatment of hyperlipidemias (Cryst. Growth Des. 2020, 21, 544-551). This work allowed to resolve discrepancies found in the solubility data in the literature for this compound and offered a molecular interpretation of the order of solubilities found in different solvents.
Congratulations to Ricardo Simões.
