Abstract Accurate vapour-liquid equilibrium (VLE) measurements of binary mixtures involving water and linear aliphatic alcohols, an important alternative source of energy, are needed for the design of industrial processing of these compounds. In this paper, VLE measurements for the (water + 1-propanol) system were carried out over the temperature range 403.2 K to 423.2 K and pressures up to 0.72 MPa using a flow apparatus. The Statistical Associating Fluid Theory for potentials of Variable Range (SAFT-VR) was used to model the system. The experimental results are accurately reproduced with this approach, using binary interaction parameters slightly modified from those previously used for the (water + ethanol) system.
