Abstract The slow molecular mobility in the model liquid crystal 4-n-pentyl-4-cyanobiphenyl has been investigated by thermally stimulated depolarization currents and differential scanning calorimetry in the amorphous nematic solid state. The phase transition temperatures were determined, as well as the respective enthalpy changes. The glass transition relaxation was analyzed, and the fragility index of this glass-forming liquid crystal was determined.
