João Salvador Fernandes was elected to the Board of Administrators of the European Federation of Corrosion (EFC) for the 2026–2028 term, at its most recent General Assembly held on June 18. This new mandate adds to two previous ones, from 2014–2016 and 2017–2019, which were interrupted due to the limitation on holding more than two consecutive terms.
The European Federation of Corrosion brings together 53 organisations—including European and international member societies and affiliate members—with interests in corrosion, spanning 25 countries across and beyond Europe. The Portuguese Society of Materials represents Portugal within the federation. Collectively, EFC’s member societies represent the corrosion-related interests of over 25,000 engineers and scientists. Founded in 1955, the EFC aims to advance the science of corrosion and materials protection by fostering cooperation across Europe and promoting global collaboration.
