Prof. Virinder S. Parmar on Chemforum

Prof. Virinder S. Parmar will be the next Chemforum speaker, which will be held on the 24th of May at 12:00 in QA1.2 in the Chemistry Tower.

Prof. Virinder S. Parmar did B.Sc. Honors, M.Sc. and Ph.D. in the University of Delhi, and worked for nearly 10 years as a Postdoctoral/Visiting Scientist at Cornell University, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Massachusetts Lowell, NYU-Poly, University of Basel and Imperial College. He is currently a Faculty in the Nanoscience Department of the CUNY Graduate Center and in Chemistry at City College and City College & Medgar Evers College, earlier he had served the University of Delhi for 44 years as Professor & Head of the Department of Chemistry and as Chairman of the Board of Research Studies, and Provost of Gwyer Hall. He was appointed Full Tenured Professor of Chemistry & First Head of the Department of Nanoscience at the University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG, USA). He has been an awardee of Medals for Excellence in Research from the Chemical Research Society of India and of the Indian Society of Chemists and Biologists, and a recipient of the Academic Staff Award from the Experts II Consortium of the European Union (EU). He was awarded the Dean’s Research Excellence Award of the School of Science, Health and Technology, Medgar Evers College, CUNY, Brooklyn, New York, USA for the years 2019 & 2020.

Prof. Parmar’s research interests include Biotechnology, Green/Sustainable Chemistry, Nanotechnology, Organic Synthesis, Medicinal Chemistry and the Chemistry of Natural Products. He has mentored 85 Ph.D. & Postdoctoral Scientists and has published 513 research papers and obtained 11 Patents; Google Scholar ratings: h-index: 53; i10-index: 288; RI Score: 4535; Citations: 13,391. He has handled 32 research projects involving grants of nearly $11.60 million in international collaboration with 26 research groups in 15 Countries. He has organized 26 conferences and has delivered over 600 Invited / Plenary Lectures in over 400 Institutions in 32 Countries. He is the Executive Editor of the Journal 'Biocatalysis and Biotransformation', and has been on the Editorial Boards of the Journals: ChemSusChem, Mendeleev Communications, Indian Journal of Chemistry, Natural Product Communications, etc. He has been a member of the IUPAC’s Subcommittee on Biomolecular Chemistry and the Interdivisional Committee on Green Chemistry for Sustainable Development (ICGCSD).
