In a new paper, entitled "Complex cellular environments imaged by SERS nanoprobes using sugars as an all-in-one vector", João Tomé and colleagues, from Aveiro and Health Network Universities, describe gold nanoparticles decorated with carbohydrates for cancer bio-imaging using surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) properties.
The cover of the issue represents cancer cells being recognized by the SERS nanoprobes and was chosen by the Journal of Materials Chemistry B editors.
