On the 11th of July César A. Urbina-Blanco, from Ghent University in the Netherlands, will give a lecture in Chemforum.

César is a senior scientist at Ghent University and a board member of the AI-tech company Sunthetics. He studied Chemistry in Universidad Simón Bolívar, Venezuela and did his final year project in the Institute of Chemistry of Organometallic Compounds in Florence, Italy. He completed his PhD in Organometallic Chemistry and Catalysis in the University of St Andrews, Scotland where he worked on the development of commercial olefin metathesis catalysts under supervision of Prof. Steven P. Nolan. He then worked as Postdoctoral Research on the field of Green Chemistry in RWTH Aachen University (Germany) with Prof. Walter Leitner and Jürgen Klankermayer. His research focuses on the field of sustainable chemistry and CO2 utilization towards the development of renewable starting materials for the chemical industry.
Cesar has won several national and international awards including the Flemish National Foundation (FWO) Senior Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2019 and in 2018 he was named a Future Leader of Chemistry by C.A.S a division of the American Chemical Society, and a Chemist to Follow by Chemistry and Engineering News (C&EN).
César is passionate about community building and volunteering. He worked as the President of Ghent University PostDoc Community and the Venezuelan Association of Chemical Competitions. César is passionate about science communication and teaching the general public about the science behind everyday activities. He has written for ACS Axial, C&EN, The world economic forum, and Caracas Chronicles. He also co-created @ChemistsTable, an account devoted to bridging the gap between chemistry and the kitchen, highlighting the diversity of the scientific community one dish at a time.
