Cover of Materials Advances

In a new paper, João C. P. Tomé and colleagues, from Madrid, Aveiro and Coimbra Universities, describe highly efficient singlet oxygen generators based on Glycoporphyrins-Silica nanoformulations with enhanced cancer photodynamic therapy (PDT) activity. These Porphyrins–Silica nanoparticles could be successfully used as novel nanocarriers for the delivery of photosensitizer materials for cancer PDT.

The cover of the issue, inspired by the cancer cells being destroyed by photoactivated oxygen produced by the encapsulated glycoporphyrins into amorphous silica nanoparticles under light, was chosen by the Materials Advances editors (https://pubs.rsc.org/en/content/articlepdf/2021/ma/d0ma00830c?page=search ).
